In case you didn’t know: my Twitter account, @EGirlMonetarism, has been suspended indefinitely. I am not precisely sure as to what triggered this suspension, so I will be appealing and it is not impossible for it to go my way.
Otherwise, I will consider my options to return to Twitter and will update the general community as to what I choose, since the vast majority of my traffic came from my Twitter followers.
Oddly, I have seen a spike of new followers this last couple of days, so if you have subscribed *after* the suspension… welcome! You’ll see more of me one way or the other
Apologies in advance for a long comment but there is a huge amount of misunderstanding regarding the free speech and being kicked off a social media platform.
I see many well meaning Liberals commenting that free speech doesn’t protect you from the consequences of your speech. This conveys a strong misunderstanding of what it is. Free speech protects vulnerable minorities. Blacks and homosexuals were all at one point persecuted and free speech defend their right to protest.
Secondly I’m writing this comment from Germany where free speech laws are very different. I have the absolute right to protest covid restrictions but to organize a march I have to register the protest with the police and get a permit.
The more relevant issue to you is not censorship but content moderation. In the good old days when I wanted to put an ad in the paper I had to speak to an actual person FB and Google are so damn profitable because they’ve removed the “human” from that equation. In the UK there is a huge issue of scammer mimicking B list celebrities to hawk stuff. “Mia and I have created this awesome get rich on substack course only 4 payments of 999 each. Good luck getting that ad removed (short of getting the BBC to cover it).
It’s the same with content moderation (aka censorship) let users rather than paid staff police the comments. 95% of the comments are moderated via AI and only a few by humans.
Secondly and much more importantly is many countries demand the instant removal of “hate speech” or face serious fines and even potentially jail time. So, again in Germany, it is illegal to promote Nazism. AI doesn’t distinguish between vaccine mandates are the first step to the holocaust and comparing vaccine mandates to the holocaust is shameful. Both get pulled!
The only real way to correctly police this is to have all comments reviewed by a real person who understands this. Quillette does this, but again relies on users to report posts.
In your situation you either need to get the attention of someone at twitter (for that to happen the MSM needs to start reporting it) or be famous enough to get their attention
